Soup Can Workouts | Stock the ShelvesAbout four years ago I decided the only thing I wanted for my birthday was to stock the shelves at the pantry. Local grocery stores teamed up with Peyton's Promise to collect food for local pantries.
A team of over 60 volunteers handed out lists of items that are most needed at the pantry. Customers can purchase those items and conveniently donate them on their way out of the store. This is a fun event for our volunteers and Advocates and it has been so successful, we added another event during the holidays. |
Drop BoxesWe developed drop box locations in an effort to make it more convenient to donate to the local pantries year round. We have food drop boxes at local banks, our village hall, and grocery stores as a convenient way for people to donate! A local company has volunteered their talents to build our bright green drop boxes.

Healthy Food Drive CompetitionsShortly after we began Peyton's Promise we saw the connection with Obesity and Poverty. After doing some research we found that it was not much more expensive to collect healthier items. We began collecting healthy food items during food drives.
Brown Rice, Whole Grain Pasta and Fruit canned in 100% Juice are some of the examples of healthier items we collect. We also challenge homerooms or even schools in a district to a competition to see who can collect the most. This puts a little competitive fun into stock the shelves. |
Remote Soup KitchensThe Remote Soup Kitchen is our newest program. It gives our volunteers the opportunity to serve hot meals, to people waiting in line, at the pantry.
Our Advocates and volunteers are able to get to know the people waiting and hear their stories. The one thing that is always surprising is how these people are just like you and I. Sometimes people just need a little bit of help. |
T-Shirt and Jeans DayBusinesses choose to participate in our Jeans and T-shirt day for a cause program. Employees purchase T-shirts and can either donate an item or pay a fee, to be able to dress in jeans and a T-shirt, on a specific day.
This raises funds and food for the community. It also allows the employees the opportunity to help spread awareness by wearing the T-shirt as a promotional tool. |
Bracelet and T-Shirt SalesOur T-shirt and Bracelet Sales Program allows us to keep the freezers and coolers, which were purchased through a grant we applied for, full of meat, dairy, and produce. We sell T-shirts and bracelets at community events and to local businesses. Good for pets or people!!!
